After worshipping Him at tiruvazhundoor AzhwAr comes to tiruchchirupuliyoor where he involves in His beauty, guNa, and chEShTitas. He advises men to come and seek Him without getting caught in the net of bAhya mathas and kudriShTi mathas.

bAhya mathas are like bouddha, jaina who deny vEda. kudriShTi mathas are those who misinterpret vEdas like advaitins, dwaitins, etc.

Oh! Men! If You want to purify Your minds eschewing all the wicked thoughts, go and seek Him in Sirupuliyoor in the sannidhi called SalaSayanam. This is the city rich with the ocean waves bringing gems etc. to settle on the banks. He resides in my mind too.

It is said a riShi called vyAgrapAda worshipped Him here. Hence it is called Sirupuliyoor (vyAgra means puli-tiger). Sala-mAya, Sayanam-nidra (yOga nidra)

Oh! Men of discrimination! Do discriminate between vaidika and avaidika schools of thought. Don’t get carried away by the words of jain and other nAstikas (avaidikas). They are hypocrites for in the name of vrata they eat different kinds of foods filling their stomach. (It is said they have a vrat called ‘perum SOruNNudal’ when they eat cooked red rice, curd rice, gruel etc) and roam aimlessly posing themselves as renunciates. ‘tarukkinAl SamaN Seidu SOru taN tayirinAl tiraLai miDaTTriDai nerukkuvAr’ (periya tirumozhi 2-1-7) come and join our group to worship His tiruvaDi which will give You true renunciation towards this world and attachment towards Him. Worship Him at tiupuliyoor.

Oh! dAsas! You are dAsas to small dAsas mean fellows and expect meager gains from them. What is the use? Look at us! i have renounced the small pleasures of this world and sought the tiruvaDi of Sirupuliyoor SalaSayanattu emberumAn to gain everlasting fruits. It is this divya dESa beautiful with roaring seas on one side, fertile fields on the other and flowering trees on the third where bees drink honey and buzz gaily.

In the previous pASura AzhwAr advised the ‘SiruttoNDeer’. But his advice was not heeded by them. From now on he speaks loudly about his experience of bliss by seeking His tiruvaDi so that they may change their minds and join his group.

i don’t know anyone else except Him who has given a part of His body to Siva, who has a moon on his matted hair; who is the antaryAmi of indra and others. He resides in Sirupuliyoor SalaSayanam which is a beautiful city with forests full of honey-laden flowers which the bees seek, drink and sing sweetly.

mazhuvALi—Siva carries ‘mazhu’ as his weapon of destruction which he uses indiscriminately even to kill his own father (brahma as well as rAkShasas).

The dEvas come everyday to this divya dESa, Sirupuliyoor, to worship Him by chanting His thousand names and prostate at His tiruvaDi singing hymns. AzhwAr similarly calls Him ‘andAmarai aDiyAi! Do anugraha to me so that i don’t fall in to naraka, though i have committed such terrible sins which deserve my naraka vAsa. Still i hope to be protected by You by seeking Your tiruvaDi.

In Sirupuliyoor there are fields where flowers resemble the women—the neelOtpala are like their eyes, the Ambal like their mouths and lotuses their faces. Hence it is difficult to know the difference between the city and the fields. Here resides emberumAn who is worshipped by the Sree vaiShNavas who by their very nature are Baktas. AzhwAr says ‘Well! i need not worship the BagavAn. Let me worship those BAgavatas and get rid of my samsAra duhKa’.

Oh! mAyA! tiurmAlirum SOlai emberumAn! Are You in the vEdas? Are You in the sacrificial fire of the vaidikas? Are You in the temple of Sirupuliyoor? Are You in the hearts of Your aDiyars? i don’t really know. You should tell me clearly.

AzhwAr is addressing the emberumAn of Sirupuliyoor. But he calls Him ‘tirumAlirum SOlai mAya’. The idea expressed here is emberumAn resides in tirumAlirum SOlai, Sirupuliyoor in sacrificial fire, in the hearts of Baktas, in four vEdas. He is the one puruShOttama everywhere.

emberumAn! The SAstras say vEdas and vaiShNavas hearts are Your abode. But my direct perception is You are in Sirupuliyoor SalaSayanam. i feel the pratyakSha pramANa (direct perception) is more powerful than SAstra pramANa. But i dare not say that vEdas are of lesser pramANa. What i feel is my eyes are better pramANa than my ears (SAstra). Therefore clear my doubts.

AzhwAr is surprised that the declarations of vEdas, the truth spoken by yogis find their truth here in SalaSayanam through the pratyakSha pramANa experienced directly by AzhwAr in the aprAkrita diyva mangaLa vigraha. The archAvatAra (vigraha), the SAstra pramANa, the ritualistic truths, the antaryAmi, the yogic driShTi are all one and the same.

The same idea is expressed in Sree koorattAzhwAn’s varadarAja stava.

Oh! amalA! You lie on the bed of five hooded AdiSESha in Sirupuliyoor SalaSayanam. The city is beautiful because there are beautiful girls with red mouths who have pet parrots that repeat what they speak. Oh! emberumAn! i shall not go behind the beautiful women for my passion for them is lost. i come to know these small pleasures are not long lasting. With Your blessings i seek Your tiruvaDi alone and find the everlasting bliss by doing kainkarya to them.

kiLi maDavAr SevvAi mozhi payilum—This is interpreted in two ways 1. The women with red lips teach their pet parrots. 2. women having red lips like parrots utter sweet words.

This pASura is an excellent expressions of AzhwAr’s mind. It should be enjoyed by the reader.

Oh! kALamEGa! You are like a dark rain cloud that quenches our thirst even when we look at You. Oh! kanaluruvA! You are like fire not easily approachable by non believers like kamsa. Oh! punaluruvA! You are as easy and pleasant like water to those like mAlAkAra, vidura and others. Oh! varaiyuruvA! You are huge and steady like a mountain and protect the dAsas. Oh! piraruruvA! ‘neerAi nlanAi teeyAi tAlAi neDuvAnAi seerAr SuDarhaL irANDAi SivanAi ayanAi tAyAi tandaiyAi makkaLAi maTTrumAi muTTrumAi’—Thus You are all form and all names. You are in short the jagadAkAra.

'ninaduruvA! koorArAzhiven SangEndi’ You are very beautiful and enjoyable (parama Bogya) residing in Sirupuliyoor (tirumA mahaL maruvum SalaSayanam) Oh! arumAkaDalamudE! i seek Your tiruvaDi.

tirumangai AzhwAr has sung this garland of words of ten pASuras on emberumAn residing in Sirupuliyoor SalaSayanam city with beautifully laid streets. Those who read them and worship Him with Bakti—Him who is the chief of nitya sooris, who is dark like cloud—will have their pApas perished immediately.
